Healthcare has become the primary concern for humans. However, it needs to be connected, personal, and available whenever needed. Amazon, the e-commerce provider, has recently focused on simplifying healthcare. The company has expanded access to its healthcare AI assistant, Health AI, making it available on the official website and mobile app.
The assistant was previously accessible through the One Medical app, Amazon's primary-care service.
What is Health AI?
Health AI is an agentic AI assistant, designed to assist users with a wide range of common healthcare tasks, including answering health questions, managing subscription renewals, booking medical appointments, and more. With this new initiative, Amazon aims to bring AI into everyday healthcare, simplifying certain tasks, and making digital health support available to everyone.
As stated by the company, “When implemented thoughtfully and responsibly, AI will enhance instead of replacing human connection in healthcare.”
Users do not need to be Prime subscribers or One Medical member to get started with the health AI assistant. This is basically an agentic AI health assistant, which can answer your generic health-related questions. Alongside, it serves as your personalized health agent, offering you the right responses and connecting you to professionals, treatments, and more.
When users choose to share their medical information, the agent can provide more personalized, accurate information and explain their diagnosis, medical records, and lab results through the Health Information Exchange, a secure network for sharing patient records.
Common Questions Health AI Can Answer:
Some of the generic health-related questions Health AI can answer are:
- Can you explain my recent cholesterol results and what they mean for me?”
- “I was recently diagnosed with a kidney stone. What diet changes should I make?”
- “I’m feeling congested and have a sore throat. What should I do?”
Availability
Currently, Prime members can use Health AI to connect eligible US users with One Medical Clinicians for consultations. They can connect via message, in person, or via video. Prime members get up to 5 free direct-message consultations for general conditions, whereas non-members can have access to doctors through a $29/year visit option.
Regarding security, Apple has kept a prime focus on all the interactions within a HIPAA-compliant environment. Meaning the conversations are strictly encrypted with access control. However, experts recommend sharing sensitive health information with AI cautiously.
With the newly launched Health AI, Amazon aims to simplify health care, make it available 24/7, handle key tasks, and allow doctors and patients to put health first!
