OpenAI is expanding the GPT-6 universe with the launch of GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, following the release of GPT-6 Astra, a new generation of intelligence. The new models are trained using methods similar to GPT-6 Astra and offer advanced capabilities, performance, and features at a lower cost. GPT-6 Sol is designed for complex tasks, with flexibility to iterate, higher usage limits, and lower cost.
At the same time, Luna is optimized for fast, high-volume work such as summarizing documents, extracting information, and answering quick questions.
Affordable Models: 50% Lower API Pricing
One of the significant highlights of the new release is affordability. OpenAI has reduced API pricing for Sol and Luna by 50% as compared with their GPT-5.6 promotional pricing. Below is the breakdown of the pricing:

Works Best for Coding, Computer Use, and More
OpenAI also states enhancements in professional work, coding, computer use, factual accuracy, and alignment. Also, GPT-6 Sol makes about half as many mistakes as its predecessor, coming closer to Astra-level reliability at a lower cost. For coding, the model performs exceptionally well, as reflected in the benchmarks.
On DeepSWE v1.1, which tests performance on complex software engineering tasks in real code bases, GPT-6 Sol scores 68.8%, within 1.1 percentage points of Claude Fable’s highest score. GPT-6 Luna scores 66.6% as compared to Claude Opus 5 and Fable 5.
Enhancements in Communication Style
Another important update is to improve communication style for Sol and Luna. OpenAI says these models provide clear responses, use less jargon, avoid unnecessary details, and produce shorter answers without reducing helpful information. The models also show improvements in OpenAI’s alignment evaluations, including lower rates of misleading coding claims.
GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna Availability
GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna are available in ChatGPT Work and Codex for all Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users. Free and Go users can access GPT -6 Luna in the desktop app. In the OpenAI API, they are available as gpt-6-sol and gpt-6-luna.
These models are rolling out gradually to ChatGPT, while OpenAI says GPT-6 Sol and Luna are built on the alignment work introduced with Astra, its most aligned model to date.
