Google is reportedly taking initiatives to unveil fresh UI changes in the Docs app with a focus on improved search, writing, and one-handed usage. Earlier this year, Google rolled out Material 3 Expressive redesigns in all its applications, including Gmail, Chrome, and Google Docs. Now Google is looking forward expand the features with simplified UI designs.
According to the findings of Android Authority, Google Docs is about to get three new filters for document search: Type, People, and Modified.
- Type refers to the type of file, such as document, presentation, or spreadsheet.
- People denote filters by users or people who own a file.
- Modified indicates document filtering based on the last modified date or time of a doc.
The floating action button (FAB) within Docs is supposed to get Material 3 Expressive touch. The plus button will soon appear in bolder pill-shaped buttons. The icons for choosing a template and starting a new document have been placed inside the buttons. The existing version reflects the plus button in rounded rectangle shapes with separate icons.
Another UI update can be seen in the formatting tool in the Docs. The formatting option in the existing version appears at the top. However, the new version will place the option in the bottom toolbar. It is to boost one-handed usage of Docs.
Material 3 Expressive Redesign on Docs:
The design updates on Google Docs resulted in changes to the editor interface. The major transformation Material 3 Expressive design language brought is a progressive indicator that appears when you wait for a document to load. The next change users observed was the pill-shaped buttons introduced for sharing a document and finishing editing.
Apart from that, the split button allows users to bullet and number lists using a separate menu button. This feature makes the menu button spin only without changing the shape once enabled.
