      The two global technological firms, OpenAI and Broadcom, are collaborating to achieve something big! To be precise, the companies have recently announced a multi-year partnership to deploy 10 gigawatts of custom AI accelerators. This strategic partnership is one of the most significant AI infrastructure projects ever undertaken.

      Under this partnership, OpenAI will design accelerators and systems. In contrast, the racks, scaled completely with Ethernet PCIe and other connectivity solutions from Broadcom, will help large-scale deployment across OpenAIโ€™s global facilities and partner data centers.

      Moving Towards the Next-Generation of AI Infrastructure

      With the design of its own chips, OpenAI aims to directly integrate insights gained from developing frontier models and AI products into the hardware. The new systems are expected to be deployed in the second half of 2026 and completed by the end of 2029, fulfilling the demand for AI computing power.

      OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, called this partnership a โ€œcritical step in building the infrastructure needed to unlock AIโ€™s potential and offer real-time benefits for people and businesses.โ€ Alongside Greg Brockman, co-founder and President at OpenAI, the company focuses on building custom chips, which allow OpenAI to align hardware directly into the AI model architecture, pushing the limits forward in terms of intelligence and efficiency.

      A Big Leap for Broadcom and the AI Ecosystem

      Now, Hock Tan, President and CEO at Broadcom, shared the collaboration as โ€œa pivotal moment in the pursuit of artificial general intelligence.โ€ In contrast, Charlie Kawwas, President of Broadcomโ€™s Semiconductor Solutions Group, shared that the new partnership will be a solid industry benchmark for scalable and power-efficient AI clusters.

      For Broadcom, this big move strengthens the commitment to Ethernet-based, open, and scalable AI data center networking solutions. OpenAI, serving over 800 million weekly active users, sees this new initiative as a cornerstone to its mission of ensuring artificial general intelligence benefits all humanity, taking its position as a top leader in next-gen AI infrastructure.
