Recast’s Strategic Approach to Proactive Endpoint Management: In Conversation with Chief Product Officer, Jake Mosey
      Jake Mosey, CPO at Recast

Tech is moving fast and creating lasting value! ExtraMile by KnowledgeNile is an exclusive interview series that empowers everyone to think bigger and expand limitless opportunities. It brings the most distinctive insights from leading experts driving the tech transformation.

Today's brilliant session features Jake Mosey, Chief Product Officer at Recast. The firm helps IT teams manage and secure modern enterprises by extending Microsoft Intune and Configuration Manager with capabilities for application delivery, automation, remediation, optimization, and end-to-end visibility.

With more than 60 million endpoints managed across all seven continents, Recast ensures endpoints are secure; applications are current, and employees are productive. Our guest, Jake, brings extensive experience in tech leadership and customer advocacy. At Recast, he leads product strategy and innovation across the company’s Application Workspace and Right Click Tools solutions.

Get ready to gain actionable strategies from Jake as he shares his 17-year journey at Jamf, valuable insights on the importance of customer feedback in product strategy, and ways to simplify application lifecycle management, and Recast’s approach to proactive endpoint management.

He also elaborates on the importance of community collaboration and why customer renewals are one of the strongest indicators of product value. So, let's dive in.

You have spent 17 years at Jamf in various leadership positions. Which are some of the significant experiences from your time that will have the biggest impact on the product strategy at Recast?

Jake. I learned many lessons over the years, mostly by screwing things up. Ultimately two core things stick with me. First, stay focused. Markets move fast and customers keep asking for more. If you try to do everything, you solve nothing. We're building a discipline around this at Recast. Second, every decision we make needs to come back to how this is better for a customer. We try to anchor every discussion around helping a customer.

As a strong customer advocate, you consistently emphasize the importance of customer feedback. How do you ensure the voice of the customer remains central to Recast's product development process?

Jake. Pretty simple. We require it. Get on customer calls with support, listen to sales calls, go to conferences, monitor community engagement, and help where you can. The answers to most of the problems are in the market. You just need to listen and have empathy for the people who are using our solutions, or who need them. The best way to motivate our teams and educate the market is by listening to and solving problems.

Application lifecycle management has become extremely complicated. How is Recast helping organizations streamline application deployment while maintaining security and compliance?

Jake. Security without visibility doesn't exist. You need to see your entire fleet first. Once you have that foundation and you've automated your application deployments, compliance and security follow. It's not complicated so much as rapidly accelerating. Our job is to help organizations keep up.

Recast focuses on its user community. From your perspective, what role does community collaboration play in identifying customer pain points and driving meaningful innovation?

Jake. Community is straightforward. We share knowledge and tools with no expectation back which helps build trust. Then that trust ultimately becomes our funnel. People in our community trust us because we've helped them, so when they need an enterprise solution to help them scale, govern and automate, we want them to think of us first. A lot of our new business comes from community members who were looking for more, which we are very proud of.

Cyber threats are growing at a rapid pace. What do you think about automation, visibility, and proactive remediation in reducing endpoint risk across large enterprise environments?

Jake. That’s the only way to keep up. You simply cannot buy your way out of the rapid pace of this market with people. You need tooling that helps you build systems to not only be proactive, but also to verify your fleet is compliant and secure.

Recast strengthens existing endpoint management platforms like Microsoft SCCM and Intune instead of replacing them. What benefit does it bring for IT teams?

Jake. Recast solves a specific, painful problem: operating in the co-managed messy middle.

Most organizations don't flip SCCM off and turn Intune on. They both run in parallel, often for years. The operational burden increases as visibility splits between two systems. This means deployments slow down and sysadmins become more reactive. Our products help you run one operation instead of two. We do this by unifying visibility across these platforms and providing consistent application deployments regardless of where the device is managed.

At the core, we take pride in making sysadmins more efficient and proactive in a market that is making it hard to keep up.

With more than 60 million endpoints managed across all seven continents, what are the biggest endpoint management challenges organizations face today, and how is Recast addressing them?

Jake. We recently did a survey that said almost 80% of sysadmins consider their day-to-day job very reactive. They're firefighting constantly. Our job is to provide visibility and automation so they can be proactive. The best IT organizations are the ones no one notices because everything works.

Looking ahead, what does success look like for you as Chief Product Officer, and what innovations can customers envision from Recast in the coming years?

Jake. We always want to stay focused on customer value by shipping the capabilities on our roadmap that matter most. But to me, the most important metric is our renewals.

When a new customer buys our solutions, they trust us to do what we say. When they renew after year one, that means we delivered on our promise and added enough value that the customer wants to pay us again to keep using our solutions. To me the renewal dollar is more authentic than any new logo number because it proves we delivered.

I think it’s everyone's job to make sure every customer who trusts us sees that value in year one and decides to keep using us in year two.
