Apple releases major software updates across its ecosystem, bringing an upgraded and capable version of Siri AI, new Apple Intelligence features that make app interaction smarter and more useful.
The company’s official announcement also highlights new features for child safety controls, an enriching digital experience for kids, and a range of improvements that make Apple products more responsive, delightful, and easy to use. The updates are rolling out to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27.
Siri AI Comes into Spotlight
The biggest spotlight is Siri AI, a new version of Siri powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence and integrated into iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro. It is designed to understand personal context, provide broad world knowledge, on-screen awareness, and perform more actions across apps. It can also access the web for up-to-date information. Siri AI is rolling out in beta in English, with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish coming in October.
On supported devices, users can interact with Siri through the Camera app on iPhone with Siri mode. This allows users to easily take action on what’s in front of them, like splitting a bill, paying through Apple Wallet, and more. With Visual Intelligence, users can ask Siri about what’s on their screen or in their surroundings to search, get answers, and take action across iPhone, Mac, iPad, and Vision Pro.
Apple is also bringing Write with Siri, allowing users to describe what they want and get a draft or refine existing writing. A dedicated Siri app uses iCloud to privately sync conversational history across a user’s devices, so they can chat with Siri on iPhone and then continue the conversation on Mac, Apple Watch, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro.
Apple Intelligence Goes a Step Ahead
Another noteworthy update is Apple Intelligence, which brings helpful new features to everyday apps. In Photos, new tools such as Spatial Reframing, Extend, and improved Clean Up features can edit photos while preserving the original photo. Image Playground can create images in various styles, including photorealistic images, while metadata and planned SynthID support can identify AI-generated or edited images.
In Safari, AI can arrange tabs into topics, notify users about website changes such as price drops or product restocks, and create custom extensions from descriptions. Call Context can also surface relevant information, such as a confirmation code or reservation number, while calling a business.
Stronger Child Safety Features
Another major focus is expert-informed child safety features. Parents can manage what their kids can see, whom they can talk to, and which apps they can access. Ask to Browse needs parental approval before children visit new websites, while Communication Safety can detect and intervene when violent content appears in shared images or videos.
The redesigned Screen Time experience provides clear information about device usage and lets parents set time limits and schedules for different app categories.
Performance Improvements and Other Features
Beyond AI-powered safety, Apple says the updates improve overall performance and connectivity. Apps on iPhone and iPad can launch up to 30% faster, photos can load up to 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers can be up to 80% faster. Apple is also introducing additional features like iCloud Shared Albums, the Health App, AirPods, Apple Maps, Apple Watch, and more.
